Interested in Pet Emotional Support during your Therapy Session?

Request a session with Coconut!
Meet Coconut, a Miniature Australian Shepard!

Coconut has been with her handler since she was 8 weeks old and has been consistently participating in training towards being a therapy dog.  She loves to play and show off what she has learned in all her classes.  She has so far been through 5 series of training programs and continues to attend training sessions in order to be the best pet assistant she can be!

For those who are not familiar, Pet Assisted Therapy is a unique option for clients who are interested in some anxiety reducing techniques during a therapy session.  Therapy can be an intimidating experience and can make family members anxious.  In these highly anxious situations it can sometimes be difficult to relax and be open to therapeutic conversations.

Pet Assisted Therapy can help in several ways by providing proximity to animals.  Studies show that some people benefit from this type of interaction with animals and can assist with reducing anxiety, tension, and stress.

Coconut can offer assistance in the following ways:
  • Calming support during a session.
  • Interactive teaching tool with children.
  • Promotes communication between family members.
  • Team building activities
  • Lifting spirits
  • Decreasing feelings of isolation and anxiety
  • Encourages a non-stressful non-judgmental environment.

Studies show that pets are great learning tools for kids! Skills they are able to take by interacting with pets include:

  • Learning to empathize (first with pets and then with people)
  • Mental stimulation
  • Encourages responsibility (feeding, walking, etc)
  • Provide a safe and non-threatening outlet
  • Can be a distraction for children who are unwilling to attend a session
